About Your LUMNAE LED Mask
20 questions answered — from your first session to advanced skin protocols.
Getting Started
Start with a clean, dry face — no makeup, no SPF, no serum. Put your Eye Shields on before switching the mask on. For your very first session, choose M1 Repairing (660nm red) at Level 1 for 10 minutes. This is the gentlest mode and the best way to introduce your skin to LED therapy.
From week 2 onwards, introduce the mode that matches your skin concern. Always start at Level 1 — increase to Level 2 only if your skin tolerates it well after 2–3 weeks. There is no benefit to rushing.

3 to 5 sessions per week, 10 minutes each. One rest day per week gives the skin time to complete the repair cycle triggered by the light. Results in photobiomodulation are cumulative — consistency over weeks matters more than any single session. Most users notice their first visible changes between week 2 and week 4.
Yes — always use the mask on a clean, dry face. Makeup, SPF, heavy oils and serums can block or scatter the light before it reaches your skin, reducing effectiveness. A light fragrance-free moisturiser is fine to leave on. Apply your serums and actives after the session — skin permeability is temporarily enhanced post-LED, which improves absorption.
Always start at Level 1 (50%) — regardless of your skin type or how robust your skin feels. Move to Level 2 from week 3 if there is no reaction. Level 3 is not recommended for pigmentation goals or rosacea-prone skin at any stage. For sensitive skin, stay at Level 1 indefinitely — it still works. More intensity does not accelerate results; consistency does.
The 6 Modes — Which One Is Right for You
M2 Rejuvenation (590nm yellow + 660nm red) is the primary mode for pigmentation, dark spots, melasma and uneven skin tone. 590nm yellow light inhibits tyrosinase — the enzyme that produces melanin — while 660nm red reduces the inflammation that triggers new pigmentation. Use at Level 1, 3–5 times per week in the evening.
Essential rule: apply SPF 50+ every single morning without exception — UV generates new pigmentation faster than the LED can clear it, especially in the UAE.

M5 Anti-Acne (415nm blue) targets acne-causing bacteria by activating porphyrins that destroy C. acnes from within. Always follow M5 with M1 Repairing (660nm red) in the same session — red light calms any potential irritation from blue light.
Important: never use M5 on rosacea-prone or reactive skin. If you have both acne and rosacea, treat them on separate evenings — acne with M5+M1, rosacea with M2.

M3 Anti-Aging (660nm red + 850nm NIR) is the collagen mode. 660nm stimulates fibroblasts to produce new collagen and elastin. 850nm near-infrared penetrates deeper to improve skin density, plumpness and firmness. Use 4–5 times per week in the evening. Visible results on fine lines typically appear from week 4; structural collagen improvement builds over weeks 8–12.
M4 Morning Skincare (590nm + 660nm + 850nm) runs all three visible wavelengths at the highest irradiance in the mask (45 mW/cm²). It activates circulation, drains overnight puffiness and delivers an instant glow. It is a daily activation mode — not a treatment session.
M6 Bedtime Skincare cycles through all four wavelengths in sequence — yellow (3 min), red+NIR (5 min), blue (2 min) — for a full-cycle overnight preparation. It is the most complete mode and ideal for multi-concern skin or as a weekly reset.

Yes — you can use two modes in the same session or the same day. The most common combination is M5 (Anti-Acne) followed immediately by M1 (Repairing) — blue light first, then red to calm. M4 in the morning and M2 or M3 in the evening is a common multi-concern approach.
The one rule: never use M5 (blue, 415nm) and M2 (yellow, 590nm) on the same day — especially on darker skin tones. These two wavelengths have opposing effects on melanin and should never be combined in the same session cycle.

Skin Types & Safety
Yes — with one specific rule for M5 (blue light). The 415nm wavelength can activate the OPN3 (Opsin-3) melanogenesis pathway in darker skin tones, potentially triggering pigmentation rather than clearing it. If your skin is Fitzpatrick III–VI:
· Use M5 at Level 1 only
· Always follow M5 with M1 (red light) in the same session
· Never use M5 and M2 on the same day
· If pigmentation is your primary concern, consider skipping M5 entirely and focusing on M2
M1, M2, M3, M4 and M6 are fully safe for all skin tones.

Yes — LED therapy is one of the safest interventions for rosacea because it is non-thermal and non-ablative. It does not trigger the heat-based flushing response that lasers and IPL can cause.
Rosacea protocol: use M2 (590nm + 660nm) at Level 1, 3–5 times per week in the evening. On flare days, switch to M1 (660nm only) at Level 1 — it is gentler and still anti-inflammatory. Never use M5 (blue light) on rosacea-prone skin — blue light can aggravate reactive skin types.

Red light therapy is widely used in clinical settings to support post-procedure recovery. However, every procedure is different — always consult your aesthetic professional or doctor before resuming any skincare device after a treatment. They are best placed to advise on timing for your specific situation. As a general guideline shared by many practitioners, a rest period is commonly suggested before resuming — but please verify this with your practitioner directly.
Avoid use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding without medical clearance, have a photosensitive condition (lupus, porphyria), are taking photosensitising medications (certain antibiotics, diuretics, retinoids at high doses), or have active cancer in the treatment area without explicit oncologist clearance. If you have any doubt, always consult a qualified healthcare professional before starting. The mask emits zero UV and no significant thermal energy.
Skincare Routine & Ingredients
Apply your serum immediately after the session — skin permeability is temporarily enhanced post-LED, improving active ingredient absorption. Choose based on your goal:
· Pigmentation: niacinamide (4–10%) or stabilised vitamin C
· Anti-aging: peptide serum or hyaluronic acid
· Acne: lightweight non-comedogenic serum
· Rosacea: centella asiatica or ceramide-based serum
Follow with moisturiser. If morning session: SPF 50+ as your final step, always.

Yes — but not on the same evening as your LED session. Apply retinol or AHAs on non-LED evenings (e.g. M3 Monday/Wednesday/Friday, retinol Tuesday/Thursday). Never apply active exfoliants, retinoids or strong vitamin C serums before a session — they can compromise the skin barrier and increase reactivity under light. After the session is fine.
Irradiance (mW/cm²) is the intensity of light reaching your skin. Energy output (J/cm²) is the total dose delivered over the full session — irradiance × time. Both matter. The Lumnae mask delivers 22–45 mW/cm² depending on mode, producing 13–27 J/cm² per 10-minute session — within the clinically evidenced therapeutic range for collagen, pigmentation and acne.

Results & Expectations
Results depend on your goal and consistency:
· Instant glow: visible after a few sessions with M4 Morning Skincare
· Redness and skin calm: from week 1–2 with M2
· Tone and dark spots: visible improvement from week 3–4
· Fine lines and texture: from week 4–6 with M3
· Structural collagen: 8–12 weeks of consistent use
Take a reference photo on day 1 — changes are gradual and easier to see in comparison. Consistency matters more than anything else.

The key advantage of a home mask is consistency: 3–5 sessions per week at zero per-session cost, versus typically monthly clinic visits. Consistent home use over weeks often produces strong cumulative results. Many users combine both — clinic sessions every 6–8 weeks, home mask in between for maintenance.
If you have a specific skin condition or are under the care of a dermatologist, always discuss your home device routine with your practitioner.

This is completely normal. 850nm near-infrared LEDs are invisible to the human eye. If you run M3 (Anti-Aging) or M4 (Morning Skincare), approximately half the LEDs appear dim or off — but they are operating at full power. Hold your smartphone camera up to the mask: your camera sensor detects NIR and will show those LEDs glowing. This confirms the device is working correctly.
